Hot question enables students to post and vote on questions, so that teachers know what they are expecting to learn and/or what they are struggling to understand. Teachers can then select the most popular questions to cater their teaching to what the majority of students want to learn. This means that teachers don't have to address every question, which is important when teaching large cohorts of students.

This tool is especially useful for lecture flipping, where staff provide pre-class materials (such as readings or videos) to make better use of face to face teaching time. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flip_teaching
