The word Moodle was originally an acronym for Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment, which is mostly useful to programmers and education theorists. It's also a verb that describes the process of lazily meandering through something, doing things as it occurs to you to do them, an enjoyable tinkering that often leads to insight and creativity. As such it applies both to the way Moodle was developed, and to the way a student or teacher might approach studying or teaching an online course. Anyone who uses Moodle is a Moodler.
The school is divided into Junior and Senior shifts with grades 7-9 and grades 10 and 11 respectively. The students are placed in ability groupings and the classes are named after the initial letters of the school as well as a past vice principal, Mrs. Pauline Lawrence. The students on the senior shift are divided into continuing and functional groups. The continuing students are primarily prepared for the CSEC and G.C.E’ O level exams while the functional students are prepared for the CCSLC exams. Students from Grades 9-11 also have the opportunity to sit the Jamaica Secondary Certificate Exams (JSC).
