Policy on Advertising

From MoodleDocs

The Moodle.org community sites contain a lot of places where anyone can contribute text to discussions and documentation.

To keep these sites fun for all to use we have the following policies that apply to all participants:

Describing your commercial affiliations in your profile is welcome

You are welcome to write about and even link to your company or other affiliated site as part of your description of yourself in your moodle.org user profile. In fact we welcome that knowledge as part of your self-disclosure.

Mentioning commercial services in discussions is OK

All participants are welcome to write about and link to commercial products or services (Moodle-related or otherwise) if it's in the natural context of a discussion such as an answer to a question. This is not seen as advertising.

Unsolicited advertisements will be deleted

Don't post unsolicited advertisements (eg in blogs, forum discussions, docs or elsewhere). Moderators will delete any such posts that are obviously advertisements for products and services with no appropriate context. Please post these on your own site and not ours. This applies to Moodle services just as much as it applies to diet pills, books on mysticism and stock tips.

Official advertising is designed to support Moodle

The Moodle Trust permits three types of official advertising to takes place on moodle.org sites:

  • Moodle Partners have banner advertisements on most pages that is targeted to users based on their country location.
  • The Moodle Shop is promoted on the front page as a place to buy Moodle merchandise (proportion of most items supports Moodle development).
  • Several books are promoted on the front page and elsewhere. Not only do we think these are good books but we also get a commission from sales.
