== Sorting grade items into grade categories ==
We use Moodle in secondary elementary school - 8th, 9th and 10th grade pupils. We use course categories named "Graduates of 2011", "Graduates of 2012", "Graduates of 2013" and add three courses - one for each grade - to each course category. All courses use the week view. Subject teachers add a subject heading, resources and activities to each week, so both teachers and pupils know the total workload for each week. In the gradebook of each grade, say the 10th grade for Graduates of 2011, we add subject categories - 10th grade Maths, 10th grade English and so on. Each grade item - tests, assigments, etc. must then be moved into the correct grade subject category. The pupil will then find all subject grades grouped together - all Maths grades are below the header "10th grade Maths" and so on. I have noticed that some grade items that I have put into a grade category are not visible to the student. This usually means that you have set the test or assigments availability, so if a pupils complain about a missing grade then check the activity's availability settings.

Strategy 1: Items weighted by their point values

I would call this Strategy "Unweighted" since the weight of each item is 1. I guess this is what Moodle means by "simple weighted"

No Item Weight setting for categories

In my Moodle 1.9.2 I can see no Item Weight setting for grade categories (it's mentioned in the tutorial). But there is an item called Aggregation coefficient. Are these two identical?

Yes, aggregation coefficient is synonymous with "weight" in this context.Nicolas Connault 07:57, 8 September 2008 (CDT)

Simplifying the headings...

At the risk of oversimplification, wouldn't it be more reader-friendly to simplify the headings down to something like...

1. Point-based grades 2. Item-based grades 3. Category-based grades

Very unsatisfied

Somebody please make a module to give me something that's usable!

This is unusable. The only thing I can do with v1.9 grades is download into a spreadsheet.

Is there a tabular view of all assignments and their settings?

Sounds to me like you want the "Grade Report" view. Go to the course, choose "Grades" from the Admin menu. From the drop-down menu "Choose an action..." choose "Grader report". --Donna Hrynkiw 13:32, 9 December 2008 (CST)

How in the world is a teacher supposed to view/edit a summary of the assignment settings?

Yeah, it can be quite frustrating to find the particular setting you want/need to change, can't it? Use the "Turn editing on/off" button to either just view the assignments and grades, or to edit them. Edit the grade settings for an assignment (or category of assignments) using the edit icon in the "Controls" row, just below the assignment name. Edit the assignment itself by clicking on the assignment name and then "Update this (whatever)" button. You can add/remove utility icons from the display using the "Show/Hide" links across the top of the page. --Donna Hrynkiw 13:32, 9 December 2008 (CST)

Somebody has gone crazy with icons and point-click on everything to see what's hidden beneath each icon!
