Note: This pages is not an official moodle document. It is just a discussion of possible ways to structure our metadata. This structure uses an Activity-Organization-Person structure that is common in many metadata registries.

Thing is the root data element of the Moodle metadata hierarchy. Thing is the term used by the W3C OWL standard.

Some possible Subclasses of Thing:

  • Activity (things that happen at a specific moment in time or time-interval
  • Course - A collection of learning materials
  • Organization - a group of people
  • Person - an instance of a human being
    • Quiz - need a precise definition
    • Student - a Person involved in a learning Activity
    • Teacher - a Person that assists in a learning activity
    • User - a person that has been authenticated to use the Moodle system
