Talk:PHP error logs

From MoodleDocs

Chris,

Setting display_errors = On is not recommended for production servers. Would we be better placed to instruct users to set up system logs either by setting log_errors = /var/log/php-errors.log or to syslog depending on Operating System?

Jon

The problem is the 'depending on Operating System' bit. And actually, probably depending on how you installed PHP and which web server you are using on that operating system.--Tim Hunt 08:52, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

I see your point Tim; but we should really not be telling people to set display_errors to on, when Moodle itself will flag that up as a bad idea... Perhaps some more general links to sources of information for setting up PHP error reporting... Jon Witts 14:34, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
